Election Human Rights Priorities: Respect Refugee Convention

Refugees

Repeal or amend the Immigration (Mass Arrivals) Amendment Act 2013 to ensure that it accords with international human rights obligations, in particular the Refugee Convention. Decline to cooperate in requests to transfer asylum seekers to detention centres in third countries

Green Party

Support fully.

The Green Party voted against the Mass Arrivals Bill. We will honour New Zealand’s obligations to the Convention and also increase our quota numbers.

Internet MANA

Yes, and yes. Internet MANA will conduct an urgent review of the quota and funding for refugees, including convention refugees, with a view to make significant increases by 2015.
